Nadia Sawas

(Swiss, b. 1987. Lives and works in Zurich)

Nadia graduated from the University of Zurich with BA degrees in History and Law, and holds a CAS in Marketing Writing / UX Writing from the Schweizerische Textakademie.

Self-taught and fully dedicated to her artistic practice since 2022, Nadia has developed a raw, expressive visual language where colour, texture and words collide. Her paintings often begin with fragments of text - scratched in, painted over, half-erased - until emotion takes over. Her work questions inherited narratives and revisits myths that shape both individual and collective perception. In her new Eden series, the story of paradise lost is not reimagined as a simple fall from grace, but as a critical reflection on the unwritten rules imposed on the “second sex” and queer bodies - from the regulation of desire to the politics of control and the fragile promise of belonging.

Recent exhibitions include: Art International Zurich with Coin Coin Offspace (2025); a large‑scale public installation at KHaus, Basel with Bøwie Gallery (2024); Lovely Autonomy, Bøwie Gallery, Geneva (2024); Helvetia in Motion, Helferei, Zurich (2024); FATart Fair, Schaffhausen (2023).

“I think of my paintings as color poems or blind mirrors: images that invite slow recognition rather than direct reflection. Through them, I hope to open portals where something ancient remembers and something deeply human is finally allowed to feel.”
